True Take-Home

Terms of use and disclaimer

Short version: this is an independent, free reference tool. It computes estimates from published rates; it does not know your circumstances, and it is not advice.

An independent website

True Take-Home is an independent website. It is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by HM Revenue & Customs, GOV.UK, the Scottish Government, or any other government body. We link to official sources throughout because they are the authority on the rules this site applies; for anything official, checking your tax code, filing a return, claiming a benefit, use gov.uk directly. This site charges nothing and never asks for personal or HMRC login details; any site that does while resembling an official service should be treated with suspicion.

Estimates, not advice

Everything on this site is general information: calculations produced by applying published HMRC rates to figures you type in. Nothing here is financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and nothing takes account of your personal circumstances. The calculators assume the standard 1257L tax code and evenly paid salary unless a page says otherwise, and each page lists its own assumptions. Before acting on anything significant, pension changes, salary sacrifice contracts, redundancy negotiations, check the figures against your own payslip and, where the sums are large, take regulated advice.

Accuracy and its limits

We take accuracy unusually seriously, rates are verified against primary sources, an automated test suite reproduces known anchor figures to the penny, and the build fails rather than publish stale rates (the method is documented on the about page). Even so, tax law changes, edge cases exist, and mistakes are possible. Figures are provided “as is”, without warranty. If a figure here disagrees with HMRC, HMRC is right, and we would like to hear about it.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from reliance on this site's calculations or content. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Decisions about your money remain yours.

Using our content

You are welcome to quote figures and passages from this site, with attribution and a link, for journalism, research, teaching or AI-assistant answers. Wholesale reproduction of pages or the calculators themselves is not permitted. External links (gov.uk, gov.scot, ONS) go to sites with their own terms; we are not responsible for their content.

Changes

These terms and the site's calculators are updated as tax rules change, most notably each April. Continued use after an update means the current version applies. See also the privacy policy, which covers data, cookies and your rights.
